KYRID Spring 2011 Conference

KYRID has a deaf presenter coming in on Saturday, March 19, 2011 in Lexington at the Crowne Plaza Lexington - Campbell House. It is Carol Aquiline. She is doing a workshop on International Sign. We also have 2 other workshops on Friday night, March 18 and one more workshop on Saturday that deaf people may be interested in. Interpreters will be provided for those presenting in English (and captioners) and the deaf presenter will obviously be presenting in ASL. Please pass the word along. We are hoping to increase the interest of the deaf community and deaf interpreters in our conferences.

Kentucky Deaf Pageant

The Kentucky Deaf Pageant is coming up soon! The pageant will take place during the 43rd biennial KAD conference in Lexington, June 16-19, 2011. Exact date and time TBA. Please watch for updates.

Apply Today for the 2011 NAD Youth Leadership Camp

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) is pleased to announce that the 2011 NAD Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) will take place from June 22 through July 20. The Camp will take place at Camp Taloali, which features 111 acres of forested land located in the foothills of Oregon’s Cascade Mountains. Embark on this unforgettable journey this summer with NAD YLC. Campers and staff application forms are now online at http://www.nad.org/2011ylc. The camper application deadline is March 31, 2011 and the staff application deadline is April 6, 2011.

The NAD YLC offers intensive leadership development opportunities and focuses on advocacy, empowerment, deaf culture and heritage, language, current issues, group dynamics, outdoor activities, and much more. YLC encourages outstanding young deaf and hard of hearing student leaders, grades 10 – 11, from diverse educational programs to develop advocacy skills and understand the principles of leadership through programs of learning, leadership development, and social interaction. The camp program provides students with opportunities for ‘learning through active involvement.' The program also aims to assist young students in developing their scholarship, leadership, and citizenship abilities and becoming self-starters in their respective schools and communities. The NAD is dedicated to providing essential leadership development strategies and tools for deaf and hard of hearing youth through this exciting summer program.
