NAD Conference and DeaFestival 2012 Information Update

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) 2012 conference has been posted on NAD's website. Please check the NAD website at if you are interested in purchasing your ticket combo and hotel information.

The "Belle of Louisville" steamboat cruise offers a very nice boat ride which includes entertainment and fireworks on Wednesday night, July 4, 2012. Tickets, which are not included with the NAD registration combo, are $40.00 each. Tickets are limited so please hurry. If you have any questions, please email Sharon at

The NAD registration "early bird combo" is $135.00 if you purchase by February 29, 2012.

If you are interested in becoming an NAD member and/or giving a donation to NAD, please complete the Individual Membership/Donation Form and submit it to NAD.

Kentucky Association of the Deaf (KAD) is asking that you please support KAD's fundraising efforts by downloading the NAD Conference Registration Form here so that KAD will receive a share of the profits from NAD. The forms you download from the KAD website has a special code on them which ensures that KAD will get a share of the profits. KAD would sincerely appreciate it and it would help KAD with local efforts.

Don't miss THIS EVENT and please help spread the word about it to everyone. A week of "DEAF EVENTS" culminating in DeaFestival 2012, all day on Saturday July 7, 2012!

Workshops: "Enhancing System of Care Training: Serving Kentucky’s Families"

In partnership with KY SEED, the Division for Beahvioral Health Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services will be presenting a series of workshops on case management / resources related to hearing loss across the lifespan. Our morning session will focus on children's services and the afternoon will focus on adults. We have wonderful co-presenters including representatives from Seven Counties Services, OVR, Hands & Voices, CCSHN, Beyond Hearing Aids, and KCDHH.

Please spread the word to providers in your community.

The Family Fun Walk Needs You To Step In Take The Reins

"KyADAPT is seeking a new chair for the 2012 Family Fun Walk.

Over the past 4 years, under the leadership of Leah Hampton and Rita and Arlen Finke, the Fun Walk has grown into a successful and enjoyable event. It is our main fundraiser each year.

We are now looking for a new Coordinator/s for the 2012 event. It is scheduled for late September at Danville’s Millennium Park."

Chuck Baird, Noted Artist and RIT/NTID Alumnus, Dies

Chuck Baird, a famed artist and RIT/NTID alum who helped establish De'VIA, a type of painting depicting life of a deaf individual in a hearing world, died this morning in Austin, Texas, after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 64.

Symposium - Deaf People as Mentors: Deaf Language Model Training

The Eastern Kentucky University Interpreter Outreach Program proudly presents a symposium titled, "Deaf People as Mentors: Deaf Language Model Training". The symposium will be presented in Frankfort on February 17-18 by Albert Walla and Jenny Stenner.
